The film's pre-production work started in 2010 and the principal photography began on 18 February 2012. The filming chiefly took place at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. The film was shot on a total budget of around 60 million and three months. The film is mainly about a brothel where the main character Tonhi goes to work and meets with many friends and family. Each episode has a story connected to why he is there, and what happened to his previous life as an artist. Acclaiming the performance of Jeet as Tonhi, film critic Aparna Ghosh wrote, "Jeet proves his mettle as an actor by convincing us with his gravity as an artistic soul beleaguered by disappointment. Koel Mallick as a prostitute proves that she's a talented actress by depicting the dreariness of her life with utmost sincerity, and her romantic pairing with Jeet is no less than a scene out of "Gone With The Wind"."

The review was generally positive, praising the songs and acting but criticised weak screenplay. Script not so convincing for most parts of the film’s first hour also is the film’s main drawback. In the second half, when the scriptwriter’s storywriting has drawn a breath and a little bit of steam in it, the story loses a little bit of its flavour. Finally, a film that not enough focus is on cinematography and music.

On the other hand, at 13ReelMovies gave it an overall rating of 5/10 saying that "The Dark Secrets Of Tonhi 2 Download is one of those films surely worth seeing once but once is definitely enough".
